This package is a comprehensive collection of maps intended to assist in locating gem sites.   Besides gold and silver, locations for agate, amethyst, azurite, chalcedony, diamond, fossils, garnet, jade, obsidian, opal, petrified wood, pyrite, quartz, ruby, sapphire, Star Garnet, Thunder eggs, topaz and zircon can be located — just to name a few of the approximately 65 gem site locations included!  All known types of rock and gem deposits as well as all reported gold and gold districts could not be included because of the numerous types and locations which would be overwhelming.  Additionally, this map package includes a map of Public Surveys in the Colorado Territory in 1866 as well as other regional mineral maps.  The state has been divided into four sections and the gold deposits for the past 100 years are printed in red.

The source of information has been taken from numerous publications.  The early maps included in this publication are located in various archival collections. The primary sources were the National Archives and the Colorado State Library. The U.S. Geological Survey supplied the featured modern map. The design is planimetric for clarity.  All maps in the series are in packages measuring 6.5″ by 9.5″. The very readable maps measure 17-1/2″ by 23″.
